Instant Life Contact Details
Instant Life is an Absa product. The website instantlife.co.za carries no Absa branding on the front of it, but its own footer says so plainly, and that single fact decides who you phone.
The number
- Absa Instant Life: 0860 000 072
- Absa general enquiries: 08600 08600
The Instant Life contact page itself publishes no telephone number or email address, so the Absa route above is the working one.
Who actually carries the risk
- The site is copyright Absa Bank Limited, registration 1986/004794/06.
- The insurer is Absa Life Limited, registration 1992/001738/06, licensed to conduct life insurance business under licence I121 and an authorised financial services provider, FSP 36116.
Those are the numbers to quote to a regulator, and the ones to check if anyone phones you claiming to sell or service this policy. A caller who cannot name the licensed insurer is not from Absa Life.
Seven separate covers, not one policy
Instant Life is a menu, and people frequently think they hold one of these when they hold another. What is published:
- Life Cover — pays out on death from natural or accidental causes.
- Estate Expense Cover — pays cash directly to your estate on death.
- Ongoing Expense Cover — pays 12 equal monthly amounts after death, rather than one lump sum.
- Accidental Death Cover — pays only on death by accident.
- Work Disability — pays if you become disabled and can no longer work.
- Critical Illness — pays on a critical illness such as cancer, a heart attack or a stroke.
- Cancer — pays on a cancer diagnosis requiring major intervention and treatment.
The distinctions that decide a claim
Read those definitions again before you claim, because three of them are narrow. Accidental Death Cover pays only if the death was an accident — an illness is not covered by it, and that is the most common misunderstanding on a policy of this type. Ongoing Expense Cover pays monthly, not as a lump sum, which is useful for replacing income but no use for a funeral bill next week. And the cancer and critical illness covers turn on a defined severity, not on any diagnosis — a claim can be valid medically and still fall outside the definition.
Before you buy or claim
- Ask what the waiting period is for natural death, and what the suicide exclusion period is.
- Ask what you must disclose about your health, and answer it fully. Non-disclosure is the leading reason a life claim is declined, and it is checked at claim stage, not at sale.
- Ask whether premiums increase with age or stay level, and by how much.
- Nominate a beneficiary and tell that person the policy exists and what number to phone. An unclaimed policy helps nobody.
If a claim is declined
- Ask for the decision in writing, naming the clause relied on.
- Use Absa’s internal complaints route first and keep the reference.
- A long-term insurance complaint goes to the National Financial Ombud Scheme; a complaint about the advice you were given when you bought it goes to the FAIS Ombud. Both are free to you.
