Complaints about a car you bought
WeBuyCars publishes a dispute resolution process. The steps it sets out are:
- Lodge the complaint with the customer care department as soon as reasonably possible, on 087 057 0000.
- Customer care investigates. It undertakes to contact you on the same or the next business day and to ask for any further information it needs.
- WeBuyCars says it aims to give you an outcome within ten business days, longer if the car has to be assessed by an independent workshop.
One warning in that process is worth repeating: WeBuyCars says you may not have repairs or alterations done to the vehicle until its investigation is finished and an agreement is reached. It states that repairs done without its written approval may count as unauthorised repairs and can void the implied warranty under the Consumer Protection Act, and that it will not be liable for storage fees at a workshop you used without its written approval. Get the approval in writing before anyone touches the car.
Before you call
- Selling: have the car’s registration details and your ID ready, and book an appointment through the site or WhatsApp rather than arriving cold.
- Buying: the site publishes a condition report for each car, so quote the stock number when you phone.
- Auctions and deposit refunds are handled through your WeBuyCars account, which you reach with the Login link on the site.
- The call centre is closed on Sundays, and customer care works shorter hours than the branches, so a Sunday query has to wait for Monday.
