Mosaic Funeral Group is a South African funeral services business with a branch network of more than seventy listed offices, concentrated in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and North West. It publishes one national number and a branch directory.

Official contact channels

Note the customer care hours. They are office hours, and a death does not keep office hours. The branch listings are the route outside those times, so find your nearest branch on the directory before you need it rather than at two in the morning.

Two things about the branch directory are worth knowing. Most branches publish a mobile number rather than a landline as the branch line, so a number that looks personal is usually the branch itself. A handful of branches do publish a landline, among them Harrismith and Qwa-Qwa on 058 622 1168, Daveyton on 011 744 0155, Pinetown on 031 709 2142, Amanzimtoti on 031 903 5423 and Pietermaritzburg on 033 342 1077.

Branch mailboxes are mixed. Some are proper branch addresses, such as [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. Others are an individual staff member personal address on a free mail provider. Those are not reproduced here. If the only address you can find for a branch belongs to a named person, use the branch telephone number or the national mailbox instead, because a personal address stops working the day that person leaves.

What this organisation provides

The group arranges burials and cremations, sells funeral cover, and handles exhumations and repatriations. Repatriation matters if a death happens far from home or outside the country, because moving a body across a border needs documentation that an ordinary local undertaker may not routinely deal with.

Address and operating information

There is no single head office address published on the site. Each branch carries its own street address and map pin on the branch finder, and several towns are served by a neighbouring branch rather than by an office in the town itself, which is why some listings share a number.

Support and escalation routes

Separate the policy from the service, because they escalate to different places. A complaint about a funeral policy, a claim that was declined, a waiting period or a premium is a financial services complaint and goes to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900 once the insurer has had its chance to answer. A complaint about the funeral itself, the arrangements, the quality of what was delivered or what you were charged, is a consumer complaint and goes to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud on 0860 000 272.

Premises are a third route. Any facility handling human remains needs a certificate of competence from the local municipality under the National Health Act regulations, and environmental health at the municipality inspects and enforces it, so concerns about a mortuary belong there. Registering the death and getting the death certificate is a Department of Home Affairs matter, and the undertaker usually lodges the notification of death on your behalf. Ask for a written quotation before you agree to anything, and keep it.
