Bonitas Maternity Programme Contact Details
The Bonitas Maternity Programme is a managed care programme for pregnant members. Bonitas publishes no dedicated maternity telephone number: enrolment and queries go through the general member line, and the delivery itself goes through hospital authorisations.
Official contact channels
- General queries and programme enrolment: 0860 002 108
- WhatsApp: 076 172 3151
- Email: queries@bonitas.co.za
- Hospital authorisations, including for the delivery: 0860 002 108, hospital@bonitas.co.za
- Ambulance: 0860 555 505
- Members on BonCap and BonCore use a separate set of contact numbers published on the Bonitas support page
When you call an ambulance, Bonitas asks for your name, telephone number and medical aid number. Have the membership number where a partner can find it too, because in labour you may not be the one making the call.
What this organisation provides
- A structured maternity programme offering enhanced support during pregnancy
- Antenatal cover managed through the programme rather than from day-to-day benefits
- Pre-authorisation for the birth admission
- Support that continues after delivery for mother and baby
- Access through the Bonitas app as well as by phone
Register as early in the pregnancy as you can. Maternity programmes are built around a schedule of antenatal visits and scans, and benefits you enrol too late to use are generally not paid retrospectively.
Address and operating information
- Bonitas Medical Fund is a registered medical scheme, not an insurer
- Programme benefits, limits and rules are set out in the Scheme Rules, which prevail over any brochure or web page
- The scheme states the Rules are available on request
- Benefit limits run per benefit year and reset annually
- Bonitas also publishes walk-in centres and a provider zone separately from member contacts
The scheme says plainly that where the brochure, the website and the Scheme Rules disagree, the Rules win. If a benefit matters to your planning, ask for the rule rather than relying on a marketing page.
Support and escalation routes
- Get pre-authorisation for the delivery before admission; an unauthorised admission can attract a co-payment
- Add your newborn to the scheme promptly after birth, normally within 30 days, or cover for the baby can be delayed and waiting periods applied
- Pregnancy and childbirth complications include conditions that are Prescribed Minimum Benefits, which a scheme must fund in full
- Complaints the scheme does not resolve go to the Council for Medical Schemes
- The scheme publishes a dispute resolution process and a fraud, waste and abuse reporting route
- Conduct by a doctor or midwife is a matter for the HPCSA or the South African Nursing Council
Registering the baby is the step most often missed. It is a scheme rule with a deadline attached rather than an administrative courtesy, and a late registration is the usual reason a newborn hospital account is refused.
