Capitec Policy Contact Details
Capitec sells insurance policies alongside its banking products, but it publishes no separate insurance telephone number. Policy and claim queries go through the same client care line as banking, and the claim guides are published per product rather than as a contact page.
Official provider route
- Client care, 24 hours: 0860 10 20 43
- Email: ClientCare@capitecbank.co.za
- WhatsApp: 067 418 9565, 06:00 to 22:00
- From outside South Africa: +27 21 440 3580
- Claim guides are published separately for funeral cover, life cover and credit insurance
Capitec publishes a step-by-step claim guide for each policy type rather than a single claims desk. Read the guide for your product before phoning, because it lists the documents you will be asked for and a claim without them simply waits.
Product or service support
- Funeral cover, including a funeral support and burial repatriation service
- Life cover
- Credit insurance, which settles a loan or card balance on death, disability or retrenchment
- Policy servicing: premiums, beneficiaries and personal details
- Claims submission for each of the above
Credit insurance is the one policyholders most often forget they hold. It is commonly taken out at the same moment as a loan, and it is precisely what should be claimed against if the borrower dies, is disabled or is retrenched, rather than the family continuing to service the debt.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
- Keep beneficiary details current; an outdated nomination is the most common cause of a delayed funeral payout
- Funeral policies carry waiting periods for natural causes; accidental death is usually covered sooner
- A death claim needs the death certificate and, in most cases, the BI-1663 notification of death
- Premiums must be up to date; a lapsed policy pays nothing
- Tell the insurer promptly, because claim notification periods are set in the policy document
Ask for the policy schedule and keep it where your family can find it. A funeral policy that nobody knows exists is the single most common reason cover goes unclaimed, and the bank will not volunteer it.
Escalation route
- Start with client care on 0860 10 20 43 and get a reference number
- A declined or underpaid claim can go to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900
- A complaint about the advice given when the policy was sold goes to the FAIS Ombud
- Insurer conduct is regulated by the FSCA, and insurer solvency by the Prudential Authority
- If credit insurance was added to a loan without proper disclosure, that is also a matter for the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627
- A medical scheme complaint is different and goes to the Council for Medical Schemes, which does not regulate these products
Check your loan statement for an insurance premium you did not knowingly agree to. Credit insurance may be required by a lender, but you are entitled to substitute your own policy, and being signed up without that being explained is a disclosure complaint.
