If you are behind on an Absa car instalment, or about to be, Absa’s vehicle finance pages send you to its debt assistance line on 0861 222 272. If the cause is retrenchment or lost income and your agreement carries Absa credit protection, a claim may cover instalments for a time. Statements and account documents run through 0860 669 669 and the Absa Banking App. Everything here comes from absa.co.za, read on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not Absa or Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance, and we cannot see your agreement, arrange relief or lodge a claim.

Two cautions. On several Absa vehicle finance pages the number shown is 0860 669 669, but the tap-to-call link dials 0861 666 488, Absa’s warranty claims line, so key the number in by hand. Absa’s debt-free journey page also prints 0860 222 272 once under collections; we list 0861 222 272, which that page gives twice and which matches Absa’s home loan and manage my debt pages.

What this organisation provides

Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance (AVAF) finances cars on instalment sale agreements. For an instalment you cannot meet, Absa’s collections guidance names four options: a short-term arrangement, a restructure of the loan, selling the car through HelpUSell, or voluntary surrender. Absa warns that the car is security for the loan, so after a surrender you still owe any shortfall on the sale.

What searchers call payment relief insurance is Absa Life’s Credit Protection Plan. For Vehicle and Asset Finance it comes as Plans A to E. Plans D and E include loss of income, and Plans B, C and D include temporary disability; on those benefits the plan pays the monthly instalment for a limited time. Death, permanent disability, terminal illness and, on Plans C and D, critical illness settle the outstanding balance. Absa says your own policy terms override this summary.

For a retrenchment claim by someone permanently employed, Absa Life asks for claim form Absa 2758 EX, a certified ID copy, a signed retrenchment letter on the employer’s letterhead, a certificate of service and a UI19 or UIF certificate, plus bank statements around the termination date if your salary went into a non-Absa account. Contract workers and the self-employed have separate lists on Absa’s claims page.

If you have a lump sum, Absa’s loan adjustment feature can lower the instalment or the balloon. You pay in an advance of at least one instalment, then choose Adjust my vehicle finance under Advance in Absa Online or the Banking App. Absa says a confirmation letter follows within three days.

Address and operating information

Absa’s vehicle finance pages do not describe a separate statement request. The Documents menu on the vehicle finance account in Absa Online or the Banking App holds the contract copy, settlement quote, paid-up letter, eNaTIS document and cross-border letter. A contract copy is emailed within three to five business days, with no repeat request for five business days. For a statement itself, phone 0860 669 669. Absa eStatements arrive as password-protected PDFs and are set up through Absa Online, Cellphone Banking or a branch.

If the car loan is your only Absa product, you can still register for Absa Online with your cellphone number, Vehicle Finance Account number and ID number. No operating hours are given for 0860 669 669 or 0861 222 272 on the vehicle finance pages.

Support and escalation routes

  1. Call debt assistance on 0861 222 272 before the debit order bounces, and ask for any arrangement to be confirmed in writing with the new amount and end date.
  2. If lost income is the cause, lodge the credit protection claim with Absa Life as well, quoting your vehicle finance account number.
  3. Take an unresolved problem to Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 (weekdays 08:00 to 16:30) or actionline@absa.co.za.
  4. If Absa’s answer does not settle it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme considers credit and insurance disputes on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
