Official Compensation Fund claims route
The Fund’s main number is 0860 105 350, and its call centre is on 0800 321 322. You can also SMS 44967. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:00. For written claim enquiries, email cfenquiries@labour.gov.za or cfcallcentre@labour.gov.za.
Employers can register claims online on the eCOID system (Compensation Made Easy, also called CompEasy), which is listed under Online tools on labour.gov.za.
What you need before contacting the Fund
Know these deadlines and documents before you call:
- Your employer must report an injury on duty within 7 working days of being told about it, and an occupational disease within 14 days.
- If the Fund does not receive notice within 12 months of the accident, the right to compensation is forfeited. If your employer fails to report, you complete form W.Cl.3 yourself.
- For payment, the Fund needs a W.Ac.33 banking form stamped by your bank, a certified copy of your ID, the first page of your bank statement and proof of residence, none older than three months.
On benefits: no compensation is paid if you are unfit for work for 3 days or less, but medical expenses are paid. Temporary disablement pays 75% of your salary at the time of the accident. Permanent disability of 30% or less is paid as a lump sum; above 30%, you get a monthly pension for life. If you are off work for more than three months and your employer stops paying you, you can claim directly from the Fund using the Affidavit W.CL.132.
Step-by-step claims process
- Report the injury or disease to your employer or supervisor immediately.
- Your employer completes the Employer’s Report of an Accident (W.Cl.2). Take Part B to the doctor or hospital.
- The doctor issues the First Medical Report (W.Cl.4) and Progress or Final Medical Reports (W.Cl.5). Give these to your employer to send to the Fund.
- When you return to work, your employer submits the Resumption Report (W.Cl.6).
- Employers can register the claim online on eCOID (CompEasy).
- If your employer does not cooperate or the claim is slow, go to your provincial office or nearest Labour Centre, or call 0860 105 350.

If your claim is stuck, email the Fund’s complaints mailbox, CF-Complaints@labour.gov.za, with your claim details, or visit your provincial office or nearest Labour Centre. To report fraud involving compensation claims, use the Compensation Fund fraud hotline on 0800 234 432 or email cf-fraud@thehotline.co.za.
