Official The Unlimited route

The Unlimited uses one number, 0861 990 000, for customer care, claims and emergencies. It is answered Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 19:00. You can also email customercare@theunlimited.co.za, log in to the member portal at my.theunlimited.co.za/login, or use the WhatsApp chatbot linked from its Talk to us page. The chatbot runs 24/7, and agents take over on WhatsApp during call centre hours.

How to claim on The Unlimited Death Cover

1. Download the natural death claim form from The Unlimited’s claims page and gather the supporting documents.
2. Call 0861 990 000 and ask for the claims team to start the claim, or submit it online at theunlimited.co.za/submit-claim.
3. Send the documents to claimsdocs@theunlimited.co.za, fax them to 086 206 4069, or post them to Private Bag X7028, Hillcrest, 3650. Post may take longer.
4. Once the claim is approved, provide a date-stamped bank statement in the claimant’s name for payment.

The claim form itself gives a different channel: tuclaims@iua.co.za, or upload through the IUA self-service site at selfservice.iua.co.za. IUA Business Solutions handles The Unlimited’s administration. Since the two sources differ, ask the call centre which channel to use when you call.

For a natural death claim you need:

• A certified ID or birth certificate of the deceased
• A certified ID of the main member
• A certified death certificate
• The DHA-1663 notification of death
• Bank confirmation

Accidental death claims also need the post-mortem report, the accident report with its case number, and the deceased’s driver’s licence and blood alcohol report. The Unlimited says it decides a claim within 72 hours of receiving all documents, and approved claims are paid within 24 hours.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

The Unlimited lists four Death Cover plans. The payout doubles for accidental death.

• Some policies have a 6-month waiting period for natural death and 12 months for HIV/AIDS-related death.
• Pre-existing conditions are not covered under Death Cover.
• When the main member dies and the claim succeeds, all premiums paid are refunded to the family, and the family stays covered for death for 6 months at no cost.
