Unlimited gap cover is the gap cover product sold by The Unlimited, a Durban based financial services provider. Gap cover pays shortfalls your medical aid does not cover, so the claim depends on what your scheme paid first.

Product or service support
Cover applies only to expenses that your registered medical aid has not paid, including for government employee schemes such as GEMS and Polmed, up to a limit of R185 800 per year. A claim is opened through the G-App and must be completed in full and submitted with all supporting documentation within six months of the first day of treatment or hospitalisation, or lodged by calling the claims number. Note that one number covers emergencies, customer care and claims.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
There is a three month waiting period from joining before you can claim, and you will need your medical aid number to claim. A twelve month waiting period applies to anything related to a condition you claimed on, or were afflicted with, in the twelve months before taking the cover. There is one exception: if you are in an emergency accident within the first three months and your medical aid pays out, the gap cover applies. Claims must comply with your medical scheme rules on using a designated, preferred, associated or network hospital, so check those with your scheme. The product covers immediate family only, meaning the spouse of the principal member and children, and does not extend to parents or other relatives. You may take the cover even if you are a dependant rather than the principal member on the medical aid. Cancellation requires 31 days written notice by email to customer care.
Escalation route
The Unlimited Group (Pty) Ltd, registration 2002/002773/07, is an authorised financial services provider under FSP number 21473. Gap cover is an insurance product and not medical scheme cover, so the Council for Medical Schemes is not the body to approach: complaints about how a gap cover claim was assessed or settled go to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900, and complaints about the advice given when the policy was sold go to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is the licensing authority for the provider.
