For a Wonga loan, call 0861 966 421 or email customercare@wonga.co.za. Applications, balances, statements, settlement letters and early repayments are all handled after you log in on wonga.co.za, and Wonga asks for complaints in writing to the same email address. We read Wonga’s website and help centre on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory and is not Wonga. We do not lend money, take applications or see loan accounts.

Wonga does not publish call centre hours or a WhatsApp number. Wonga’s help centre says to add customercare@wonga.co.za to your contacts, because loan information is sent from that address and can land in spam.

Wonga Online (Pty) Ltd, company number 2019/167500/07, gives its address as 1st floor, 14 Kloof Street, Gardens, Cape Town, 8001. On the National Credit Regulator’s register it is credit provider NCRCP12875, with a Paarden Eiland address, and a second entity, Wonga SPV1 (Pty) Ltd trading as Wonga, is NCRCP15040 at 14 Kloof Street. Wonga says it is a member of Micro Finance South Africa and that its customer service staff are registered with the Council for Debt Collectors.

Product or service support

Wonga offers short-term online loans. New customers can apply for up to R5 000, repayable over 6 days to 3 months; existing customers can apply for up to R8 000 over up to 6 months. Every application includes a credit check, and you must accept a DebiCheck mandate; if you are approved and accept it between 08:00 and 17:00, Wonga says the money arrives in about 15 minutes.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

To qualify for a Wonga loan, you must be over 18, live in South Africa, have your own email address and cellphone, a regular income (freelancers and consultants are accepted) and an active bank account. Wonga says it can only pay out to Absa, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Discovery Bank accounts. The homepage also asks for your SA ID number and most recent proof of income.

Interest is charged per day. There is also an initiation fee and a R69 monthly service fee, pro-rated for the first 30 days. Wonga’s own worked example for R4 000 over 3 months is R5 300.97 in total, or three instalments of R1 766.99, made up of a R534.75 initiation fee, R230.00 in service fees and R536.24 interest. The exact figure depends on the day of the month you apply.

Repayment rules from the help centre:

  • The instalment is debited on the morning of the due date. If that date is a weekend or public holiday, it moves to the business day before.
  • To repay early, log in and choose Repay: Visa or Mastercard, Capitec Pay or Ozow Instant EFT. There is no fee for early settlement and interest drops accordingly.
  • A manual payment is not possible within five days of the due date. A part payment reduces your final instalment, not the scheduled ones.
  • A settlement letter, requested under “Make payment”, is valid for 5 days.
  • If both a debit order and a manual payment go through, email proof of payment to customercare@wonga.co.za; refunds take up to 2 business days.
  • If you fall into arrears, you can arrange payments with one of Wonga’s debt collection agencies or log in and pay the arrears.

Escalation route

  1. Send a written complaint to customercare@wonga.co.za. Wonga says it normally responds and tries to resolve complaints within 48 working hours, and explains the delay if a complex case takes longer.
  2. If you disagree with the answer, write again with your objections and any new information; Wonga treats this as an appeal.
  3. Wonga names the National Credit Regulator for unresolved complaints: 0860 627 627 or complaints@ncr.org.za. Credit disputes can also go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.

Wonga’s own advice is not to apply if you are already struggling with existing debt, and to speak to a registered debt counsellor instead; the National Credit Regulator lists them.
