Where support actually happens

• Consumer and small business support runs through support.microsoft.com, which routes you to chat or a callback once you identify the product. There is no walk-in support at Bryanston
• Account and sign-in recovery is self-service. No Microsoft agent can reset your password for you or bypass two-factor verification, in Johannesburg or anywhere else
• Business customers with a support agreement use the admin centre for their tenant rather than any public number
• Xbox, Surface and Microsoft 365 each have their own support paths on the same site. Picking the right product first is what gets you to a human

Watch out for fake Microsoft numbers

• Microsoft never phones you unprompted about a virus, an expiring licence or a refund. Every such call is a scam, regardless of what the caller ID shows
• Microsoft does not put support numbers in pop-up warnings on web pages. A number that appears on a scary full-screen alert is placed there by the scammer
• Never give remote access to your computer to someone who called you, and never pay for support in gift cards, vouchers or crypto
• If you have already given access, disconnect the machine, change your passwords from a different device and report it. Microsoft takes reports through its own reporting page

Other routes

• Sales and licensing enquiries for business go through a Microsoft partner or the customer care number rather than the switchboard
• Jobs at the Johannesburg office are advertised only on the Microsoft careers site. Microsoft does not charge to apply and does not recruit through WhatsApp groups
