To change your SASSA SRD banking details, use the official banking details update page on srd.sassa.gov.za (srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/banking-details-update). Enter your 13-digit ID number, and SASSA sends a one-time PIN by SMS to the cellphone number you registered with. If you no longer have that phone, first update your number on the site’s mobile number update page, or call the SASSA call centre on 0800 601 011. Every detail below was read from srd.sassa.gov.za on 19 September 2026. The site currently describes the grant as the SASSA SRD R370 grant.

How to change your SRD account number
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/banking-details-update. SASSA says the page is for approved SRD beneficiaries who want to change their banking details.
- Enter your 13-digit South African ID number and tap “send pin”.
- SASSA sends an SMS with a one-time PIN to the cellphone number you registered with when you applied. Enter that PIN and follow the instructions to choose your new payment method.
SASSA sets three conditions on the page. If you choose payment into a bank account, you must be the owner of that account, because SASSA cannot pay your grant into someone else’s account. If you choose a money transfer through one of the major banks, the cellphone number that received the SMS must be registered in your name. And the new details are used only for future payments, after verification, so a payment already in progress still goes to the old details.
Updating SASSA banking details without your phone number
The banking update only works if you can receive the PIN on your registered number. If you have lost that number or changed phones, update the number first:
- Mobile number update (srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/mobile-number-update): SASSA first verifies that you are the original applicant. You enter your ID number, the reason for the update and your current payment option.
- Contact details update (srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact): update your cellphone number and/or email address with your ID number and the 6-digit Application ID (AppID) SASSA gave you when you applied or reapplied. Only one request is allowed in 24 hours.
- By phone: SASSA’s SRD home page says that if your contact number differs from the one used to apply, you should call the SASSA call centre on 0800 601 011 to update it.
Once your new number is on record, go back to the banking details update page and request the PIN.
If someone changed your number without permission
SASSA has a separate page to report an unauthorised change: srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/banking, titled “Report unauthorised cell phone number change”. By submitting your ID number there, you confirm that the cellphone number on your SRD application was changed without your permission. Because banking changes are authorised by a PIN sent to the registered number, a hijacked number puts your payments at risk. Report it as soon as you notice, and never share the PIN SASSA sends you.
Name and surname corrections
If your application was declined because of incorrect name or surname details, use srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/name-surname-update. Enter your ID number, registered mobile number, and names exactly as they appear on your ID. SASSA only updates them if they match the Department of Home Affairs database.
The SRD grant is for South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers and special permit holders aged 18 to 60 with insufficient means, who receive no other social grant, and who do not contribute to or qualify for UIF. If a month is declined, you can appeal to the Department of Social Development for each declined month through srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals. SASSA’s home page says everything is provided electronically, with no documents to upload, and that it uses your mobile number to give feedback on your application, so keep that number current.
