- Built in 2001 as a specialist hospital, conceived by the late Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo.
- It opened only briefly and was shut down after the equipment acquired for it was found to be obsolete.
- It stood largely unused for roughly two decades, owned by the National Social Security Authority.
- In February 2025 it was handed over to the National University of Science and Technology under a long-term lease, to be converted into a specialist teaching and research hospital.
- Reopening has been announced more than once. Plans have included a specialist maternity and paediatric unit covering gynaecology, neonatology and paediatrics.
Treat any reported opening date as a plan rather than a fact until the facility answers its own telephone. That is not scepticism about the current effort, it is the record of this particular building. Confirm with NUST before travelling, and certainly before travelling from another country.

Why no South African details appear here
Pages about foreign organisations on South African directories frequently carry South African numbers by mistake, because the template assumed the country. That failure is worse than an empty page.
