1Life publishes separate numbers for sales, client services, claims and fraud reporting rather than a single switchboard. Using the claims number for a claim, rather than going through sales, is the difference between one call and two.
Official contact channels
- Sales: 0860 10 53 40
- Client services: 0860 10 51 94
- Claims: 0860 10 51 96
- Report fraud: 0861 11 56 53
- WhatsApp: 0860 10 53 40
- Policyholder portal: on the 1Life website
The sales number doubles as the WhatsApp line. 1Life publishes email addresses for client services and general enquiries through its website contact form, and its enquiry form asks you to categorise the query as sales, customer services, claims or other β the same split as the phone numbers.
What this organisation provides
1Life is a direct life insurer, selling life cover and funeral cover to the public without a broker. Direct distribution is why the sales line is separate and prominent: for a direct insurer, the sales channel is a contact route in its own right rather than something handled by an intermediary.
It also means there is no broker holding your file. Keep your own record of what was agreed, when, and with whom, because there is no third party who can reconstruct it for you later.
1Life offers a policyholder portal for self-service, which is generally the fastest route for documents, policy schedules and confirming what cover is in force.
Address and operating information
1Life does not publish contact centre operating hours or a walk-in service address on its contact page. The published channels are the phone numbers, WhatsApp, the enquiry form and the portal.
A dedicated fraud reporting number is worth noting. Insurance fraud reporting is deliberately routed away from the servicing lines so that a report is not handled by the team it may concern.
Support and escalation routes
1Life sells cover online and by phone, so a policy can be taken out without ever meeting anyone. That convenience is worth pairing with a deliberate habit: tell whoever would need to claim that the policy exists, and where the policy number is kept. A direct-sold policy has no adviser who will make that call for you.
For a claim, call the claims number directly and get a claim reference on the first call. Have the policy number, the identity number of the life assured and, for a death claim, the death certificate and the claimant’s identification.
Beneficiary nominations and premium collections are the two things most worth confirming while a policy is in force, since both are routinely the cause of a delayed payout and both are simple to check through client services.
If a complaint is not resolved internally, long-term insurance disputes in South Africa go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme once the insurer’s own process has been exhausted. Complaints about the advice given when a policy was sold fall to the FAIS Ombud instead.
