Old Mutual Life Insurance Contact Details

Verified 6 September 2026Official source onlyIndependent directoryReport a wrong number

Old Mutual’s life insurance sits inside Old Mutual South Africa rather than in a separate life company with its own switchboard. One number covers it, and the fastest routes are not the phone at all.

Official contact details

The WhatsApp channel and the Old Mutual App between them handle claim submission, document upload and download, tax certificates, beneficiary changes, personal detail updates and payment management. For a life policy those cover almost every routine errand.

Claiming on a life policy

  • Start on 0860 933 333 or through the app and get a claim reference before you gather anything else.
  • A death claim needs the death certificate, the deceased’s ID, the policy number and the claimant’s ID and bank details. Old Mutual will confirm the full list against the specific policy.
  • Complaints about how a claim was handled go through the complaints page on oldmutual.co.za and its green complaints button, not through the claims line.

If the claim is on a policy you did not administer — a parent’s or a spouse’s — and you cannot find a policy number, run the unclaimed benefits check on oldmutual.co.za against the deceased’s ID number first. It is free and it finds policies the family did not know about.

Which Old Mutual entity you are dealing with

Old Mutual Limited is the licensed controlling company of the Designated Old Mutual Limited Insurance Group, registration number 2017/235138/06. Entities in the group are separately licensed financial services providers and insurers, and the group operates across twelve countries. Life cover is written by the South African life licence; short-term cover sits with Old Mutual Insure on 0860 22 55 63, and wealth management with Old Mutual Wealth on 0860 999 199.

Beneficiaries, and the mistake that costs families most

A life policy pays the beneficiary nominated on the policy, not the person named in the will. If the nomination is out of date — an ex-spouse, a beneficiary who has died — the payout follows the policy and the estate has to unpick it afterwards. Updating a nomination takes a few minutes on the app or on WhatsApp and costs nothing. Fraud on a policy, including anyone asking for a fee to release a payout, goes to Tip-offs Anonymous free on 0800 222 117.
