AppOUTsurance app, or the MyOUTsurance client portal

Help@OUT is the only one of these lines that is staffed around the clock. Client care, claims and sales all keep office hours, so a Sunday breakdown goes to 08 600 80 000 and nowhere else.

What OUTsurance roadside assistance covers

OUTsurance describes the roadside part of Help@OUT as sending help directly to you if you are stuck at the side of the road, and names four situations: a breakdown, an accident, a flat tyre, or keys locked inside the vehicle.

Help@OUT is broader than roadside cover, though. The other two arms are:

  • Home and office assistance: OUTsurance says it will send a qualified locksmith, electrician, plumber, tree feller, beekeeper, builder or glazier.
  • Panic assistance: a panic button in the OUTsurance app that sends the nearest medical or armed response unit to where you are.

The panic button only works from the app, so it is worth installing and signing in before you need it rather than during an emergency.

When you call from the roadside

  • Give your policy number, the vehicle registration and, as precisely as you can, where you are: road name, direction of travel and the last landmark or off-ramp you passed.
  • Say whether anyone is injured, because that changes the response.
  • Stay with the vehicle where it is safe to do so, and confirm the name of the service provider dispatched to you before you let anyone take the car.
  • If the car has to be towed after an accident, you still need to submit the claim itself: that goes through 08 600 70 000, the app or the client portal.

Roadside help through the app instead of phoning

OUTsurance pushes most non-emergency work into the app and the MyOUTsurance portal, and the list of what you can do there is worth knowing before you sit in a queue: submit and track a claim, complete a geyser claim or a windscreen claim entirely online, do a digital vehicle inspection with a few photographs, view and change policy details, request documents, add a new item to OUT-and-About cover, and start a quote.

The same login works for both the app and the portal through what OUTsurance calls the OUT ID.

Is roadside assistance on your OUTsurance policy?

Help@OUT is presented by OUTsurance as a benefit that comes with its cover rather than as a separately sold roadside product, so what you can call out depends on which policies you hold. If you are not certain what your own schedule includes, the quickest check is in the app or the MyOUTsurance portal under your policy documents, or a call to client care on 08 600 70 000 during office hours. Ask specifically whether roadside, home and office assistance and panic assistance are all active on your policy, because they are three separate services under the one Help@OUT name.
