Solidarity, or Solidariteit, is a South African trade union with a service centre in Centurion and network offices in all nine provinces. Members are handled through one national service line rather than by phoning a provincial office directly.
Official contact channels
- Service centre: 0861 252 423
- Email: [email protected]
- Solidarity Service Centre: Eendracht Street, Kloofsig, Centurion, 0157
- Postal address: PO Box 11760, Centurion, 0046
- Network office details for each province are published on the union website
A practical note before you go looking: the union website is written in Afrikaans and its English paths do not resolve. If an English link fails, that is the site rather than the union being unreachable, and the service number and email work regardless of which language you use.
What this organisation provides
- Trade union membership and workplace representation
- Occupational networks grouped by trade and profession, with member and supporter tiers
- Individual case handling for members in disciplinary and dismissal matters
- A free registration profile separate from paid membership
- Advisory councils attached to the occupational networks
The distinction between a network member and a network supporter trips people up, and the union answers it directly in its published questions. Registering a free profile is not the same as being a paid-up member, and only membership brings representation in a workplace dispute.
Address and operating information
- Service centre in Kloofsig, Centurion, Gauteng
- Network offices across all nine provinces: Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Limpopo and the Western Cape
- The union publishes driving directions to the service centre from Johannesburg, OR Tambo and Limpopo
- No public trading hours are published
- Solidarity forms part of the wider Solidarity Movement of associated organisations
Because case work is routed nationally, do not assume the nearest provincial office is the right first call. The service centre logs the matter and allocates it, and going around that process usually slows a case rather than speeding it up.
Support and escalation routes
- Membership and case queries: 0861 252 423 or [email protected]
- Membership fee questions, including when fees increase, are handled by the service centre
- A workplace dispute is heard at the relevant bargaining council, or at the CCMA where no council has jurisdiction
- Complaints about the union as a registered organisation go to the Registrar of Labour Relations at the Department of Employment and Labour
- Unfair discrimination and equity matters may also go to the Commission for Employment Equity or the Labour Court
Statutory time limits run whether or not your union has come back to you. An unfair dismissal referral must generally reach the CCMA or the council within thirty days of the dismissal, so log the matter early and follow up in writing rather than waiting to be contacted.
