Destiny is not a stand-alone company. The Destiny Retirement Funds are the umbrella, preservation and retirement annuity funds of GIB, a Johannesburg financial services and insurance broking group, and GIB is who you contact about a Destiny provident fund. What this fund range provides

GIB describes the Destiny Retirement Funds as approved funds that let employers of any size, and individuals, save for retirement with the scale benefits of a large fund. The range includes the Destiny Umbrella Fund for employers, Destiny Retirement Preservation Funds for employees who resign and want to preserve their pension or provident fund savings, a Destiny Retirement Annuity, a Destiny Living Annuity, unclaimed benefits funds and tax-free savings. GIB says the Destiny funds date from 2001.

Which one applies to you

  • Still employed and contributing through payroll: you are in your employer’s arrangement, usually the umbrella fund. Your HR department holds your employer’s details and can confirm your member number.
  • Left an employer and moved your savings to Destiny: you hold a preservation fund in your own name, and you deal with GIB directly.
  • Not sure whether money was left behind at an old employer: ask about the Destiny unclaimed benefits funds.
