Doctors, practices and other healthcare providers who need Medscheme about a claim have two numbers. Call 0861 112 666 for a first-time claim submission on any Medscheme-administered scheme, or 0861 118 666 about a claim that has already been submitted or needs amending. These numbers come from the claims submission screen of Medscheme’s healthcare provider portal (portal.medscheme.co.za), which we read together with medscheme.com on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not Medscheme or any medical scheme, and we cannot look up a practice number, a remittance or a claim.

medscheme.com itself publishes no provider call centre, only the head office number and a media email address. The portal is the one place Medscheme lists provider-facing claims lines. It publishes no hours for them. Member benefit and authorisation questions still belong on each scheme’s own member line, not these numbers.

What you need before contacting

  • Your BHF practice number. The portal is built around the BHF-registered practice as the primary account and rejects numbers it does not recognise.
  • The patient’s scheme, membership number and dependant number, which are the fields the portal uses to identify a patient. Medscheme answers for several schemes, and Polmed claims have their own mailbox.
  • The practice’s official email address already on Medscheme’s records. The portal asks for it to confirm that you belong to the practice. It is not the personal email you use for password resets.
  • Banking details or the Electropay form, if the question is about how the practice is paid.

According to its Our Clients page, Medscheme administers AECI Medical Aid Society, Barloworld Medical Scheme, Fedhealth, GEMS, Horizon, MBMed, Medshield, Parmed, SABC Medical Scheme, SAMWUMED, Sisonke Health and Polmed. Its office list also names a Rustenburg branch dedicated to Bonitas and Polmed.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. Register or log in as an HCP on portal.medscheme.co.za. Medscheme’s login page links it for healthcare providers, and there is a separate entry for medical bureaus.
  2. Check the portal first. the portal lists the practice’s remittances, the latest payments per scheme, a payment lookup, active bank details and a list of queries the practice has taken part in.
  3. To log a query about a prescribed minimum benefit (PMB), use the portal’s query screen. The portal says new queries cannot be added there for Bonitas members.
  4. For a claim the portal cannot resolve, call or email the matching desk from the table: first-time submissions or submitted claims and amendments, with Polmed on its own mailbox.
  5. If your portal account shows no linked organisation, email providerportalqueries@medscheme.co.za rather than the claims desks.

The portal warns that a benefit enquiry does not guarantee that a claim will be paid in part or in full. Keep the reference of every query you log.

Escalation route

Take an unresolved claims dispute up through the complaints process of the medical scheme concerned. If the scheme’s internal process does not settle it, the Council for Medical Schemes accepts complaints from anyone aggrieved by a registered or accredited entity. Its complaints page lists administrators as well as medical schemes. Send the CMS complaint form and your documents to complaints@medicalschemes.co.za, or call 0861 123 267. The CMS asks for complaints to be lodged, preferably within three years, once you have failed to resolve the matter with the scheme or entity.

Medscheme’s head office publishes no separate provider complaints channel. For access to information and personal information requests, the PAIA manual in the portal gives the Information Officer’s mailbox as informationofficer@afrocentrichealth.com.
