To claim for a burst geyser on Absa home insurance, call 0860 100 876 and follow the prompts, email hocclaims@absa.co.za, or register the claim in the Absa Banking App. A burst geyser is a building claim under Absa’s Homeowner’s Comprehensive (HOC) Insurance, which is underwritten by Absa Insurance Company Limited (FSP 8030).
Absa also sells building cover through iDirect and Activate, and those customers claim through their own channels (see below). Household contents cover is a different product. For Absa’s banking numbers, see the main Absa contact details page.

Official Absa geyser claim route
Absa’s HOC policy covers the bursting, leaking or overflowing of geysers, cisterns, baths, fixed water tanks and water pipes that form part of the buildings. You can register the claim in three ways:
- Phone: call 0860 100 876 and follow the prompts. A consultant guides you through the claims registration process.
- Email: send new claims to hocclaims@absa.co.za.
- App or online: log on to the Absa Banking App, scroll down to Your insurance and tap Register claim.
Between 16:30 and 08:00, 0860 100 876 transfers to the after-hours assistance line, where a service provider is appointed for emergency services. Absa’s Home Assist 24-hour helpline covers plumbing and electrical emergencies for three incidents per policy year, paying the call-out fee and the first hour of labour.
For policy questions that are not claims, email adminhoc@absa.co.za or call 0860 100 876.
What you need before contacting Absa
Report the claim within 30 days of the geyser bursting, or it could be rejected. Have these ready:
- Full details of what happened and the damage.
- A SAPS case number if theft or malicious damage is involved (report it to SAPS within 24 hours).
- Details of any other insurance on the property.
- Money for the excess, which you pay to the service provider Absa appoints before repairs start.
Know what is not paid. If a 150-litre geyser bursts and you upgrade to a 300-litre one, Absa reimburses only the cost of the original 150-litre geyser after the excess. Consequential loss, such as the water lost from a burst pipe, is not covered, and wear and tear and maintenance-related damage are excluded.
Step-by-step contact process
- Stop further damage and note what happened. If theft or malicious damage is involved, report it to SAPS within 24 hours.
- Register the claim within 30 days: in the Absa Banking App (Your insurance > Register claim), online, by calling 0860 100 876, or by emailing hocclaims@absa.co.za.
- Give full details of the loss, any police case number, details of other insurance, and any documents Absa asks for.
- Pay the excess to the appointed service provider before repairs begin.
iDirect and Activate customers: iDirect customers claim through iDirect Self Service and can call 0860 202 122 with queries. Activate customers submit claims in the Activate App, call 0860 222 762 with queries, or email activateadmin@absa.africa.
