To claim on Absa home insurance, call Absa Insurance Company on 0860 100 876 or email a new claim to hocclaims@absa.co.za; you can also register the claim yourself in the Absa Banking App or on Absa’s insurance self-service portal. Activate and idirect home policies use their own numbers, listed below. We read these details on absa.co.za, including the Homeowner’s Comprehensive Insurance FAQ and the claims page, on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory, not Absa or Absa Insurance Company. We have no access to policies and cannot lodge or track a claim.

Absa Insurance Company answers 0860 100 876 on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:30 and closes on weekends and public holidays. Outside those hours the same number transfers you to an after-hours line for emergencies and certain claims, where a service provider can be sent out.

Absa’s pages are not consistent on some details. The building insurance page prints an idirect query number of 0860 202 122 and a claims mailbox ending in “absa.coza”, which looks like a typing error; other Absa pages give 0860 20 21 22 and idirectclaims@absa.co.za, while the claims page lists idirectFNOL@absa.co.za. The complaints mailbox is ais.complaints@absa.co.za on the homeowner’s pages and aiscomplaints@absa.co.za on the Activate FAQ.

Product or service support

Absa Insurance Company Limited (FSP 8030) sells home cover in three ways. Homeowner’s Comprehensive Insurance (HOC) insures the structure, outbuildings, walls, paving and permanent fixtures, and is quoted with an Absa home loan. Activate is the fully digital policy, bought online and managed in an app. idirect is the call centre option. Contents cover for what is inside the house is a separate policy, and Absa notes that in a simplex, duplex or complex the body corporate already insures the structure, so contents cover is the policy you need.

To claim online, open the Insurance hub on the Banking App or Absa Online, choose the policy and tap Claim, or log in to the self-service portal with your ID or passport number and use My claims. Keep the claim number, because every later update depends on it.

Home Assist on an HOC policy covers three emergency call-outs a year for plumbing, electrical, locksmith, appliance or glazier work, paying the call-out fee and the first hour of labour.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

The homeowner’s FAQ sets these claim rules:

  • Report loss or damage within 30 days, or the claim may be rejected. Activate’s terms allow 31 days.
  • Report theft, malicious damage or injury to the police within 24 hours and pass on the case number.
  • You pay the excess to the appointed service provider before repairs begin.
  • Cover stops if the home is left vacant for 60 days or longer, or is illegally occupied.
  • Wear and tear, poor maintenance and gradual deterioration are not covered, and power surge cover is capped at R10 000 per claim.

On cancelling, Absa publishes no step-by-step cancellation process for home insurance, so ask on the policy line for your product. If your house carries an Absa bond, remember that building cover is compulsory for the life of the loan: HOC meets the bond requirement automatically, while an outside policy has to be vetted and proof sent to Absa every year.

Escalation route

  1. If a claim is rejected, Absa must give the reason; follow the dispute process in your policy wording and quote the claim number.
  2. Put an unresolved matter in writing to Absa Insurance Company’s complaints desk on 0860 111 665 or ais.complaints@absa.co.za.
  3. If the insurer’s final answer does not settle it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme, which now handles non-life insurance disputes, takes complaints on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
