Official Absa home insurance claim route

Absa lets you lodge a home claim in four ways: on the insurance self-service portal (under My claims, where you can upload photos), in the Insurance hub of the Absa Banking App, in the Absa Online Insurance hub, or in the Activate App if you are an Activate customer. You can also phone the claim line for your product.

Absa lists its insurance claim lines as open weekdays from 08:00 to 16:30. The Activate call centre keeps the same hours, Monday to Friday.

What you need before contacting Absa

To use the self-service portal you log in with your ID or passport number, so have it ready. Take photos of the damage before you start, because the portal asks you to upload supporting photos with the claim details.

For an HOC claim, know what HOC will not pay for. Absa says it will not consider a claim where the damage comes from poor maintenance, wear and tear or gradual deterioration. HOC also requires the sum insured to equal the full replacement value of the property, so check your cover amount against that.

Activate customers emailing a claim should put the policy number in the subject line.

Step-by-step claim process

  1. Log in to the insurance self-service portal with your ID or passport number.
  2. Click My claims, enter the details of the loss or damage and upload supporting photos.
  3. Check the information before you submit, and keep the claim number.
  4. If you prefer the app, open the Absa Banking App, go to the Insurance hub, choose your product, tap Claim and follow the prompts.

Keep your claim number to track progress. Absa sends updates by email and shows them on the self-service portal.

Escalation route

If you are unhappy with how a claim is handled, Absa Insurance takes complaints on 0860 111 665 or by email at ais.complaints@absa.co.za. Quote your claim number and policy number when you complain.

For other insurers, browse the insurance and medical aid hub or the insurance directory A listings.
