Official Absa car insurance claims route

Absa runs two car insurance lines, so check which one your policy is on before you call:

For a breakdown or accident on the road, call roadside assistance on 0861 434 732. Absa car cover includes 24-hour emergency roadside and accident assistance and a jumpstart service. Windscreen claims are handled by Glasfit, and there is no excess for windscreen chip repairs. Absa’s own pages print two different Glasfit numbers, so use the Glasfit number on your policy documents or ask Absa on your claims line.

What you need before contacting Absa

  • Your ID or passport number, which you use to log in to the self-service portal.
  • Your policy number, which you also need to start a digital vehicle self-inspection.
  • Details of what happened. Covered events include theft or attempted theft, fire, explosion, lightning, hailstorms, floods or snow, and accidents.

Absa car cover has flat excesses regardless of the claim, optional car hire and an open driver policy, so check your schedule for the excess and car hire that apply to you.

Step-by-step claim process

You can skip the call centre and claim for loss or damage to your car in any of these ways:

  1. Self-service portal: go to insurance.absa.africa/iss/, log in with your ID or passport number, open My claims, enter the required information and submit.
  2. Absa Banking App: log in, tap the Insurance hub at the bottom of your home screen, tap the insurance product, tap Claim, enter the details and follow the prompts.
  3. Absa Online: log in, open the Insurance hub, select the product, click Claim and follow the prompts.
  4. Phone: call 0860 100 876 (Absa Insurance Company) or 0860 20 21 22 (idirect). For roadside emergencies call 0861 434 732.

If you are an Absa Activate customer, submit your claim in the Absa Activate App. You get a claim number as soon as you submit it.

Escalation route

Absa does not publish a separate escalation line for car claims on its claims pages. Follow up on the claims line or email for your policy type and quote your claim number. Absa Insurance Company Limited (registration number 2000/025898/06) is an authorised financial services provider, FSP 8030.

For other insurers, browse the insurance and medical aid hub or the insurance directory A listings.
