TransUnion publishes a warning worth reading before you travel anywhere: in-person consumer support is available only at its Johannesburg office. Its Cape Town premises is a corporate and sales office and does not provide walk-in consumer support, so arriving there with a credit dispute is a wasted journey. Everything else runs through one number, 0861 482 482, which does triple duty — it is the call centre, it is the WhatsApp number in international form, and it is how you start a live chat, by calling and selecting the chat option so a link is sent to you. For disputes specifically, the online portal is usually better than any of them, because it lets you upload documents and track the request. All details below come from TransUnion’s own contact page.
Official contact channels
- Call centre: 0861 482 482
- WhatsApp support: +27 86 148 2482, the same number in international form
- Live chat: call 0861 482 482 and select the option to chat with an agent; a link is then sent to you to begin the session
- myTransUnion Consumer Portal: on transunion.co.za
- Website administration: [email protected] — a technical address, not a consumer support route
The portal is the route TransUnion points to for disputes and queries, and it is the only one that gives you a tracked record. Through it you can log disputes and queries, upload supporting documents, track the status of your requests and manage your account online.
What this organisation provides
TransUnion is a credit bureau operating in South Africa, holding consumer credit information and supplying it to credit providers, alongside business services covering credit and risk reporting, collections, analytics, fraud and verification. For consumers it provides credit reports, a credit score, alerts and a dispute process. As a registered credit bureau it operates under the National Credit Act, which gives you the right to see your credit record and to challenge information you believe is wrong — and its Consumer Support Team is the route TransUnion names for disputes, credit reports, fraud investigations and account enquiries alike.
Address and operating information
- Johannesburg, consumer walk-in service centre: Ground Floor, 11 Alice Lane, Sandton, Johannesburg
- Cape Town, corporate and sales office only — no walk-in consumer support: Tygerberg Office Park, Drakenzicht Building, 163 Uys Krige Drive, Plattekloof, Cape Town
- Consumer Support Contact Centre: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00, Saturday 08:00 to 13:00, closed Sundays and public holidays
The Saturday morning window is worth knowing, since most credit bureaus are weekday-only. The portal, by contrast, has no hours at all.
Support and escalation routes
- Get your credit report first, so any dispute refers to what the record actually says.
- Log the dispute through the myTransUnion portal rather than by phone. A bureau dispute runs to a statutory timetable and the portal gives you a tracked reference.
- Remember the listing usually originates with a credit provider, so a factual dispute may also need raising with the lender that supplied the data.
- TransUnion publishes a separate Report a Vulnerability route for security issues, which is not a consumer support channel.
- If a dispute is not resolved, a complaint about a credit bureau goes to the National Credit Regulator, which supervises registered bureaus, or to the credit ombud scheme that handles bureau information disputes.
