Absa Life Cover is serviced by the same Absa policy servicing team that handles its other long-term insurance products. This page lists the routes Absa publishes for it.

Official provider route

Absa publishes this number for policy servicing across its cover products. It is not a branch line and not the general banking number, so use it directly rather than going through customer care.

Product or service support

Absa does not publish a separate claims number for life cover on its contact page. A claim therefore begins on the servicing line above, and the team will confirm the documents required for the specific policy.

Life cover pays out on death and, depending on the policy, on disability or critical illness. The servicing team handles premium changes, beneficiary nominations, cover amounts, policy schedules and cancellations. Beneficiary nominations in particular are worth confirming in writing, because an out-of-date nomination is one of the most common causes of a delayed payout.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Disclosure matters more on life cover than on most products. Answers given at application about health, occupation and smoking form part of the contract, and a material inaccuracy can be raised at claim stage years later. If something was recorded incorrectly, correcting it now is far better than leaving it to be discovered by an assessor.

Have the policy number and the life assured’s identity number ready. Changes to beneficiaries or cover usually require written confirmation and may require the policyholder rather than a family member to make the request. If you are enquiring on someone else’s policy, expect Absa to be limited in what it can disclose.

Escalation route

Two practical points come up repeatedly on life policies. A policy that lapses for non-payment does not automatically reinstate when payment resumes β€” reinstatement is a separate request and may require fresh underwriting. And cover bought years ago may no longer match your circumstances, so a periodic review of the sum assured is worth a call in its own right.

Keep your contact details current with the servicing team. Insurers write to the address and number on file, and a lapse notice that never reaches you is still treated as delivered. Updating them takes one call and prevents the most avoidable form of policy failure.

Where a policy was taken out through a broker or a bank consultant, the servicing team is still the route for changes; the original salesperson is not required, and waiting for them usually just adds delay.

The same servicing number covers Absa Funeral Cover, so say which product you hold at the start of the call to avoid being transferred.

Ask for a reference number when a query is logged. If the internal process does not resolve it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme handles long-term insurance complaints in South Africa once the insurer’s own process has been exhausted.
