Outside the metros

The rest of the Eastern Cape is served by district municipalities made up of local municipalities. Check the municipality named on your account, and ask which authority is the service authority for the function you need, since water services may sit with either the district or the local municipality.

A note on named officials

Nelson Mandela Bay publishes area-by-area building inspector allocations on its own website, listing individual officials by name with their personal contact details. We do not reproduce those here. For a building certificate or inspection, go to the contact section of nelsonmandelabay.gov.za directly, or call the switchboard and ask for Building Control for your area.

Electricity in the Eastern Cape

Electricity may come from your municipality or directly from Eskom. Check the supplier named on your bill before reporting a fault, since the two run separate networks. Eskom’s National Call Centre is 0860 037 566.

Escalating a complaint

Log the issue with your municipality and keep the reference number. Unresolved maladministration complaints can go to the Public Protector on 0800 112 040, electricity disputes to NERSA via nersa.org.za, and governance concerns to the Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
