Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, registration number 2002/015527/30, is South Africa national electricity utility. The contact routes below were read from the Eskom customer contact page on 31 August 2026, with the self-service channels confirmed against the same site earlier in the month.

Official contact channels

The letters ESKOM spell 37566 on a keypad, which is why the call centre number and the USSD string share those digits. During load shedding or a widespread outage the call centre is heavily congested, and the USSD channel is the practical alternative – it lets you log a fault and check the status of one already logged without waiting in a queue.

A practical note on email: most addresses on the Eskom website are obscured by its security layer and will not display as readable text. The addresses that do publish openly are [email protected] and [email protected]. For customer matters, use the call centre, USSD or Alfred rather than hunting for an email address.

What this organisation provides

Eskom generates, transmits and distributes electricity nationally. In some areas it supplies customers directly; in others your account is with a municipality that buys from Eskom. That distinction decides who you should be calling at all. If you pay your electricity account to a municipality, an outage or billing query is a municipal matter and Eskom cannot resolve it. If you buy directly from Eskom, the numbers above apply.

Eskom publishes exactly what to have ready before you make contact, and having it to hand is the difference between one call and three:

The pole number is the one people rarely have. It is printed on the nearest supply pole and identifies the physical point of supply, which is what a fault crew actually needs. Note it down before you phone, particularly in rural and smallholding areas where a street address alone will not locate the fault.

Address and operating information

Megawatt Park is a corporate head office, not a customer walk-in centre, and the 011 800 8111 switchboard will not resolve a supply fault. The call centre and USSD channels are the customer routes.

Support and escalation routes

Log the fault or complaint through the call centre or USSD and keep the reference number – Eskom works on reference numbers, and without one a follow-up call starts from scratch.

Eskom runs an independent whistle-blowing channel for reporting corruption, electricity theft, meter tampering or misconduct, separate from customer service:

Beyond Eskom, electricity supply is regulated by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa, which handles complaints about licensed distributors, tariffs and quality of supply once the utility has had its opportunity to resolve the matter. Where the supplier is your municipality rather than Eskom, the complaint follows the municipal route first and then the Public Protector on 0800 112 040 for maladministration by an organ of state.
