SASSA runs one national toll-free line for grant queries, 0800 60 10 11, and that is the number to use for anything about a grant, an application or a payment. The head office switchboard, 012 400 2000, is a different thing: it reaches the agency’s Pretoria administration, not the grant call centre, and a grant query raised there will be redirected. Beyond those two, SASSA is organised by province, and each of the nine regions publishes its own number and physical address. If your matter concerns a specific application already lodged, the regional office covering where you applied will resolve it faster than the national line. One point worth settling immediately, because it is widely misunderstood: SASSA does not publish a WhatsApp number for contacting the agency. It runs a WhatsApp broadcast channel that publishes updates, which is not a two-way contact route. Everything below is taken from SASSA’s own website.

Official contact channels

Regional offices, as published by SASSA. Where two numbers are listed, the first is the regional executive manager’s office and the second the branch coordinator:

A note on the Western Cape entry. SASSA’s contact page lists the regional executive manager on 012 469 0200 and the branch coordinator on 021 469 0200. The 012 prefix is a Pretoria dialling code rather than a Cape Town one, so the first of those two appears to be an error on the published page. The 021 number is given above as the reliable one; if it does not connect, use the national line.

Services and responsibilities

The South African Social Security Agency administers the country’s social grants, describing its purpose as paying the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time and place. The grants it administers are the Older Persons Grant, War Veterans Grant, Disability Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant and its Top-Up, Grant-In-Aid, and Social Relief of Distress, which includes the COVID-19 SRD grant. Social Relief of Distress is described as temporary assistance for people in such dire material need that they cannot meet their own or their family’s most basic needs, and is distinct from the ongoing grants. SASSA also publishes a Customer Support Grant Request form, which must be typed rather than completed by hand and emailed to [email protected].

Office and address information

Below the regional offices sits a much larger network of local service offices, and this is where most in-person business is actually done. SASSA publishes a national directory of them organised by province, district, local office, municipality and ward ID, so you can identify the office serving your ward before travelling. SASSA does not publish national office hours on its contact pages, so confirm by telephone before making a journey.

Sources

The telephone numbers, email address, head office and regional addresses and grant descriptions on this page were read from SASSA’s own website at sassa.gov.za on 30 August 2026, including its head office and regional contacts page. Nothing has been inferred or taken from a directory. Personal email addresses of named SASSA officials published on that page are deliberately not reproduced here. Confirm against sassa.gov.za before relying on any of it.
