Absa Authorisations Contact Details
Absa does not publish an “authorisation centre” number or an authorisations email address. The route depends on the kind of authorisation you mean. A business taking card payments on an Absa device or gateway uses Absa’s payment acceptance line, 0860 111 222, or contactmerc@absa.co.za. An account holder who has to approve a payment, an online card purchase or a DebiCheck debit order does it in the Absa Banking App or on Absa Online, with the 3D Secure Call Centre on +27 (0) 11 354 4058 for online card purchases. These routes were read on absa.co.za and Absa’s app help site on 16 September 2026.
ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not Absa, we cannot approve or reverse a transaction, and we cannot see a merchant account.

Absa’s payment acceptance pages describe a Merchant Help Desk with a 48-hour maximum turnaround for calls logged there, backed by regional offices in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Bloemfontein. Absa prints no separate number for that help desk or for voice authorisations: the line on its merchant product pages is 0860 111 222, and no hours are given for it. One page, for Masterpass, shows contactmerc@absa.africa instead of the .co.za address.
What you need before contacting
- For approvals in the app: the Absa Banking App registered on the cellphone number linked to your profile, because SureCheck messages go to that registered number.
- If you are travelling: an app activated before you leave and access to Wi-Fi. Absa says app users abroad can then approve 3D Secure purchases without turning on roaming.
- To add an operator or second user whose payments you will authorise: your South African ID and bank card at an Absa branch.
- For a merchant query: the details on your Absa merchant agreement or statement. Absa does not list what the help desk will ask for.
Step-by-step contact process
- Work out which authorisation is waiting: a payment created by another user or operator, an online card purchase, a DebiCheck debit order, or a card payment at your own business.
- For a payment waiting on you, log in to the app, tap the notifications icon at the bottom of the home screen, then approve or reject it. On Absa Online, operator transactions stay pending until the main user authorises them.
- For an online purchase, accept or reject the SureCheck in the app. You can ask for it to be resent three times; after the third failure Absa sends an SMS OTP for one last attempt. From the merchant’s site you get up to 120 seconds to log in and approve.
- For DebiCheck on Absa Online, choose Payments, then Authorisations, then DebiCheck debit orders. On Cellphone Banking dial *120*2277# and select option 9.
- Merchants with a card machine or payment gateway question call 0860 111 222 or email contactmerc@absa.co.za, and keep the reference for the call.
- If you did not start the transaction, reject it and call the Fraud Hotline on 0860 557 557. Absa’s SureCheck messages include the fraud hotline details for this reason.
Escalation route
A declined or duplicated authorisation that the help desk or the digital banking team cannot sort out becomes a complaint. Log it with Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 or actionline@absa.co.za; the line is open on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:30. Give the date, amount, merchant or payer name and any reference you were given. Should Absa’s final answer leave it unresolved, you can refer it to the National Financial Ombud Scheme, which charges consumers nothing, on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
Merchants should also keep their PCI DSS self-assessment current on Absa’s Data Security Manager portal. Absa says compliance is a mandatory requirement of its merchant agreement, and that registered merchants get breach cover of R200 000 for forensic investigations or card scheme fines.
