What is an AVAF account?

An AVAF account is a vehicle or asset finance account with Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance. If you bought a car on finance through Absa, your statements, debit orders and settlement letters come from AVAF, and you may see “Absa Vehicle Finance” as the beneficiary name when you pay. Your AVAF account number is the reference Absa uses for everything on that loan, so keep it handy before you call 0860 669 669.

AVAF banking details: how to pay your account

Absa lists several ways to pay an AVAF account:

  • by debit order
  • by EFT on Absa Online Banking or the Absa Banking App
  • by an inter-account transfer at an Absa branch or ATM
  • by paying Absa as a beneficiary from another bank
  • by depositing cash at an Absa branch with a deposit slip
  • by depositing cash at an Absa cash-accepting ATM

At a cash-accepting ATM, choose Cardless Banking, then Scan n Pay, select Financial institution as the payment category and Absa Vehicle Finance as the beneficiary, and enter your AVAF account number. You can insert up to 100 notes, with no coins, elastic bands or staples, and should keep the receipt. Only pay into an Absa account in Absa’s name, using your AVAF account number as the reference. Never pay an instalment or settlement into a personal bank account, whoever asks.

Can’t pay? AVAF payment arrangements

Absa says customers who want to find out about alternative payment arrangements on vehicle finance should call 0861 222 272, a service it describes as exclusive to Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance customers in financial distress. If you are asking about a “payment holiday” or relief on your car instalment, this is the line to call, and it is better to call before you miss a payment than after. Absa’s blog adds that protecting your credit score by paying on time should be the priority.

Manage your AVAF account online

Many requests do not need a call. On Absa Online Banking or the Absa Banking App you can:

  • make extra payments on your vehicle finance from an Absa transactional account
  • request a copy of your vehicle’s eNaTIS documents
  • get your paid-up letter
  • request a settlement letter
  • obtain a cross-border letter

To register for Online Banking with a vehicle finance account, choose Logon, then Register on absa.co.za, and enter your cellphone number, AVAF account number and ID number when asked. The online route is available 24/7, which makes it the quickest way to get a settlement figure in writing.

AVAF tracking and recovery numbers

For businesses using Absa’s fleet management services, Absa installs tracking units and pays the monthly tracking fees on the customer’s behalf. It publishes regional numbers for tracking and recovery, with 0861 600 800 as the fleet management help line:

RegionTelephone
Johannesburg011 685 9500
Cape Town021 816 4000
Durban031 566 7700
Port Elizabeth041 396 5533
Nelspruit013 753 4584

If a financed vehicle is stolen or hijacked, report it to SAPS and to your tracking provider’s emergency line first, because recovery depends on speed, then tell AVAF and your insurer. For a personal car loan, the right number is still 0860 669 669 rather than the fleet line.

Complaints and escalation

Absa handles complaints through its Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41, weekdays 08:00 to 16:30, or by email to actionline@absa.co.za. Quote your AVAF account number and any earlier reference. If the matter is not resolved, the independent National Financial Ombud Scheme handles banking and credit disputes free of charge on 0860 800 900. See our Absa contact details page for Absa’s other numbers.
