Assupol’s own FAQ gives two different answers to how you cancel a policy. One says to email client services or SMS HELP to 41366 and wait for a consultant. The other says to email the policy service mailbox, call client services, or visit a branch. Both are Assupol’s, so either route is valid. Cancelling in writing
- Put your full name, ID number and policy number in the email, and say which policy you are cancelling if you hold more than one
- State the date you want the cancellation to take effect
- Ask for a written confirmation that includes the last premium to be collected
- Keep the confirmation until you have seen that the debit order has stopped
Before you cancel a funeral or life policy
A funeral or life policy that is cancelled cannot simply be restarted later on the same terms. A new policy normally comes with a new waiting period, and older applicants can find cover harder to get. If the problem is affordability rather than the policy itself, ask client services about reducing the cover before you cancel. If the policy has lapsed because premiums were missed and you want to keep it, Assupol says outstanding premiums can be paid into the bank account it sends you by SMS, or through the Assupol client portal at my.assupol.co.za.
