Liberty is a long-term insurer and investment business. It runs one general line covering enquiries, claims and servicing across its retail products, and separate lines for its corporate and investment arms β so which number you need depends on whether you hold a personal policy, an employee benefit through your employer, or a STANLIB investment.
Official contact channels
- General enquiries, claims and servicing: 0860 456 789 or 011 558 4871
- General email: [email protected]
- Toll-free within South Africa: 0800 204 547
- Liberty Corporate, employee benefits: 011 558 2999 β [email protected]
- STANLIB Collective Investments: 0860 456 789
- Capital Alliance Group Risk: 011 558 2999
- Liberty Medical Lifestyle: 0860 456 789
Liberty also publishes a WhatsApp channel and the MyLiberty self-service portal. Between them these handle policy documents, claims, tax certificates, financial adviser details and funeral quotes without a call, which is usually faster than the contact centre for anything routine.
What this organisation provides
The retail business covers life cover, critical illness, disability cover, income protection, estate planning and gap cover, alongside retirement and investment products. Liberty Corporate is a separate arm serving employers with umbrella funds, group risk and consulting, and STANLIB is the group’s asset manager.
This structure explains a common frustration: if your cover came through your employer, the retail contact centre generally cannot see it. Employee benefits sit with Liberty Corporate and are administered against the employer’s scheme rather than against you as an individual client.
Address and operating information
Liberty publishes several distinctly named routes rather than one switchboard β Liberty Corporate, STANLIB Collective Investments, Capital Alliance Group Risk and Liberty Medical Lifestyle each appear separately. Two share the retail number and two share the corporate number, so the naming matters more than the digits: quoting the right business name gets the call routed correctly even where the number is identical.
Liberty does not publish contact-centre operating hours on its contact page, and it does not publish a walk-in service address there either. The self-service portal and WhatsApp channel are described as available anytime, which makes them the practical route outside business hours.
One defect worth knowing about: one of the telephone links on Liberty’s contact page is malformed in the underlying code β it renders as +27 11 558 2999 but links to a number missing a digit. Dial the number as displayed rather than tapping the link.
Support and escalation routes
Get a reference number whenever a query is logged, and use the self-service portal to obtain the policy documents an escalation will depend on. Liberty publishes a separate route for reporting fraud, and states a zero-tolerance position on fraud, corruption and bribery.
If a complaint is not resolved internally, long-term insurance disputes in South Africa can be taken to the National Financial Ombud Scheme once the insurer’s own process has been exhausted. Complaints about retirement fund benefits fall to the Pension Funds Adjudicator instead, which is the relevant route for most Liberty Corporate matters.
