The Unlimited publishes separate claim guidance for each type of cover it sells, and reading the right one before you phone is what determines whether a claim moves on the first call. There are five published claim routes — accident cash, accidental death, natural death, GAP and warranty — each with its own document requirements. They all go to the same number, 0861 990 000, so the number is never the problem; having the wrong paperwork is. The other thing worth knowing is that this line runs Monday to Saturday, 07:00 to 19:00 only. A death claim raised on a Sunday will have to wait for Monday unless you use the WhatsApp chatbot, which runs continuously. All details below come from The Unlimited’s own website.
Official provider route
- Claims, customer care and emergencies: 0861 990 000, Monday to Saturday 07:00 to 19:00
- WhatsApp: chatbot 24/7, with agents during the same Monday to Saturday hours
- Online: per-claim guidance pages on theunlimited.co.za, one for each claim type
- App: The Unlimited app
Product or service support
The Unlimited publishes a starting monthly price for each product, which makes it straightforward to identify which cover you hold: Motor Warranty from R429 a month, Scratch and Dent from R149, Tyre and Rim from R159, Medical Insurance from R672, GAP Cover from R369, Death Cover from R150, Legal Cover from R179, and a bundled My Unlimited product from R99. Its GAP cover is described as available to all government employees and as providing up to R185 800 extra per year towards medical aid gaps and expenses. Knowing which of these you hold, and its claim type, is the first thing an agent will establish.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
- Identify your claim type first. The five published routes are accident cash, accidental death, natural death, GAP and warranty, and each has its own page setting out what is needed.
- Your policy details and identity document, for any claim.
- For a death claim, the documents the relevant guidance page lists. Gathering them before calling avoids a second conversation at a difficult time.
- For a GAP claim, the medical aid’s shortfall statement, since GAP cover pays the gap between what the scheme covers and what was charged.
- Premiums are collected by DebiCheck, and The Unlimited publishes DebiCheck FAQs. If a debit order has failed, that is the section to read, and it also publishes guidance on making a manual payment.
Escalation route
- Lodge on 0861 990 000 or through WhatsApp, and record the claim reference. Everything afterwards depends on it.
- Use WhatsApp where you can, so the exchange is written. On a declined claim, what you were told and when both matter.
- If a claim is delayed or declined, ask for the decision and its reasons in writing before escalating.
- The Unlimited Group (Pty) Ltd, registration 2002/002773/07, is an authorised financial services provider under FSP 21473. Once its internal process is exhausted, an unresolved complaint can go to the relevant financial services ombud scheme.
