Standard Bank runs its credit cards from the general personal banking number rather than a card-only line, and the one thing you cannot do by telephone is raise your limit.
Official provider route
- Personal banking and card accounts: 0860 123 000
- Calling from outside South Africa: +27 10 824 1515
- Lost or stolen cards, 24 hours: 0800 020 600
- Card protection plan claims: 0860 123 999
Product or service support
A credit limit increase is applied for in the Standard Bank App only: open the Credit Card tile in the Accounts section, tap Apply on the Credit Limit Increase tile, and follow the prompts to see what you qualify for. There are no service or admin fees for the increase itself, and an approved limit usually becomes active within about five minutes provided no documents are outstanding.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
The increase is assessed on your card account and credit history, and is subject to credit checks and to compliance with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. After a bureau check you may be asked to produce confirmation of income such as a payslip. An increase can change your monthly fees, your repayment terms and your monthly repayment amount, depending on the card you hold. If you are declined, the bank points to alternatives such as a balance transfer that reallocates credit from other cards, including cards held at other banks.
Escalation route
As an example of the terms, the entry level Blue Credit Card carries a R40.00 monthly fee, requires a minimum monthly income of R5,000, and offers up to R250,000 of credit at a personalised rate, with no interest if the balance is settled in full within 55 days or a minimum repayment of 3 percent a month. A dispute the bank does not resolve goes to the complaint resolution centre on 0860 101 101, then the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900, or the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 for the credit agreement.
